Curved terracotta Venetian plaster walls at Salon Gabrielle
Finish guide

Venetian plaster or microcement?

Choose Venetian plaster when the character of a decorative wall is your starting point. Consider microcement when you want a continuous concrete-style finish across interior floors or walls. Artistica offers both in Melbourne and Victoria; the right choice depends on the surfaces in your space and the look you want to create.

A softly textured living-room wall and a floor that runs through several rooms need different conversations. Start there, then compare samples and the proposed preparation before you settle on a finish.

See what you are choosing

Venetian plaster is made with lime and marble and applied by hand. Its depth and variation catch the light, so curves, archways and changes in daylight become part of the finish. At Salon Gabrielle, the terracotta plaster continues around curved walls and styling stations.

Microcement creates a seamless, grout-free surface with a concrete-style appearance. Artistica’s micro cement range covers interior floors and walls, including transitions between surfaces. The image below shows how a continuous finish can sit alongside joinery and other interior materials.

Look at samples in the context of your room

Bring a reference photo, but explain what you like about it: a quiet matte surface, a warm colour, visible movement or a polished appearance. Those details make the conversation more useful than choosing by a material name alone.

Review the proposed sample alongside flooring, joinery and other finishes. For a feature wall, think about daylight and wall lighting. For connected floors and walls, consider how much contrast you want between the surfaces. Artistica can discuss colours, textures and swatches before you choose.

Preparation matters as much as appearance

Tell the team what is underneath the finish and whether the work is part of a renovation or a new build. Existing tiles, plasterboard and other substrates need an assessment of their condition and the preparation required. Share photographs, dimensions or drawings when you have them, and ask what is included in the quote.

For a bathroom, identify the exact area and its exposure to water. Suitability, sealing and care depend on the proposed system and installation. Discuss those details with Artistica before specifying either finish for the space.

Make the next conversation practical

Start with your suburb, the walls or floors involved and the result you have in mind. You do not need detailed plans for an initial enquiry. Artistica offers complimentary quotes and site consultations, so the team can help turn the comparison into a proposal for your actual space.

Compare quotes by the finish, surface area, preparation and agreed work. Ask for care guidance for the chosen surface as part of that discussion, rather than relying on a general cleaning routine.
